Am I Too Old to Start Surfing?

As a beginner surfer, starting in your late 20s can be a bit intimidating. You may wonder how good you can really become. Can you still progress and improve, even though you didn’t start at a young age?

"I surfed alone! It was amazing! said the 27 years old mom. February 26, 2024 in the morning as she remembered, she decided to try surfing by herself. From the moment she was able to ride on the surfboard, she was hooked.

Her life path was a just few steps off. She knew it wouldn't be easy.
"Am I too old to pursue Surfing?"
"Is it still doable to learn surfing in my late 20s?"
"How good can I become at surfing, if I start in my late 20s?"

The answer is YES! It can be bit dismaying but with patience, consistency and dedication, someone in her 20s might be a good surfer in the future. To someone who has an active lifestyle, literally active, runs half marathon, lifts weights, workouts in the gym, joins OCR and Spartan, loves trail run, hike mountains, rides bike, joins indoor bouldering, this was a hard enough transition in any activity. But what makes surfing so difficult is that the situation is always changing.

The situation is always changing that makes it hard and fun at the same time. Imagine you have one moment to make the right move before the opportunity is lost forever. If you fall, your board can become a deadly projectile. Finding yourself in impact zone filled with pummeling waves and other surfers.

Surfing is a great way to get some exercise, connect with nature, and meet new people. And it’s never too late to learn! Whether you’re a beginner or you’ve been surfing for years, there’s always something new to learn. The best part about surfing is that it’s always changing. Every day, the conditions are different. You never know what to expect, and that’s part of the fun. If you’re in your 20s and looking for a new hobby, learning to surf is the best decision you’ll ever make.
